We had a wonderful time at this beautiful villa. If you like hidden gems, I can only recommend, not to mention we had a late check-in, and our host was more than accommodating and welcoming.

Palazzo Ronchelli is an architectural and historical gem, tucked away in the tiny peaceful hamlet of Castello Cabiaglio. ||Be prepared to be transported back in time to the 16th century, when the Palazzo was built as a hunting lodge. Simona is a delightful and welcoming host, who has worked tirelessly and passionately since buying the palazzo in 2008, after the building had been abandoned for 50 years. ||The building bursts with historical features such as porticoes, marble fireplaces, frescoes, carved wooden ceilings, hundreds of books, grand rooms furnished with antiques wherever you look - it's hard to take it all in. ||There are so many delights. The cobbled courtyard has one of the oldest wisterias in Europe. At the time of our visit in June, the tall back wall of the courtyard was covered in star jasmine, in full flower, it's heady perfume filling the air.||There are more surprises in store in the breakfast room. When Simona bought the palazzo the ceiling of the breakfast room was black. She began cleaning it to reveal a stunning ceiling depicting birds from around the world, against a backdrop of rambling grape vines and butterflies. ||Two of the bedrooms share a bathroom, and the third has its own.

Complimenti!!

We made this booking not realising it was about an hour out of Lugano (we only wanted an overnighter near Lugano) but boy were we NOT disappointed! ||With little understanding of this region, we were picked up by Simona (owner) and her husband from the train station in Lugano. ||We wove our way along the shores of Lugano, into the Lombardy region and the mountains of Varese. The woods are dense and smelt of the earthy forrest. It was a pleasant surprise after the likes of Milan. The higher we climbed the less densely populated it became until we arrived in the little village of Castello Cabiaglio. ||We wound our way through the tiny streets of this village to where the Palazzo Ronchelli sat majestically on top of the hill. ||The Palazzo Ronchelli is graceful original 1500's Palace. After sitting vacant for more than 40 years Simona and her husband bought it and began the painstaking restoration journey. ||The palace is filled with grandeur and there are multiple areas to relax avoiding other guests if that is to your liking. We stayed in the large guest room with private ensuite. It had numerous cabinetry for storage and ample furnishings. The windows give a supreme view of the palace grounds and wild forrest behind. ||Simona was kind enough to show us the whole Palace and the yet to be restored cellar/storage area was like taking a trip back in time! ||She was a gracious host and offered as much information on the Palace as we were interested in hearing. ||Aside from the multiple living areas there is a generous terrace upstairs where the 400yr old wisteria hugs the balcony. Simply stunning!||Dinner was kindly prepared by Simona's mother which just added to the authenticity of the local experience and I must say it was to die for! Home cooked dinner with hand made breads and divine wine...... Bellissimo!!! ||Breakfast was ample (especially after the home cooked dinner the night before) and there was plenty to choose from. ||I highly recommend the Palazzo Ronchelli for a night or longer and don't be afraid to go off the beaten track a little..... The surprises you find might just be the highlight of the trip. ||Thank you Simona. I hope you have continued success in your beautiful Palace BnB.||Mick and Kristy

I attended an event with friends. The place is magnificent and inspiring: after parking in front of the Church of the small village of Castello Cabiaglio (Varese), you enter the court of Palazzo Ronchelli, a wide area in front of the Palace. Right in the season you may admire the magnificent glicine (over 400 years old!) with its violet flowers. We then had lunch in the main room, in front of a nice fireplace. The ceiling is also great with its painting and plaster "stucchi".

Torneremo sicuramente!

We were travelling in the area and didn't expect much, just wanted to find a place to sleep. We were very positively surprised when we got into the town and when we got to the Palazzo! A wonderful, old house that makes you a bit dream of Palladio-houses close to Venice. The paintings on the roofs alone are already worth to visit that house! A lot of handcraft - cutted wood on the roof, an impressing painting in the room for breakfast of an Italian artist, still alive, that paints like in the Renaissance!||The hosts are very interested and open minded people, friendly and supporting if you need advices for sightseeing. As a visitor you feel at easy at Pallazo Ronchelli.||Check also the Restaurant Corona in Cuvio for Italian food.

An amazing building with many astonishing details. We celebrated our wedding in Palazzo Ronchelli, which became an amazing and desirable experience. This beautiful location, in a small and authentic village called Castello Cabiaglio, was a surprise to us when we first visited during an aperitivo in the summer. The aperitivo contains all sorts of 'home-grown' food and is served with a lot of prosecco, which is stored in this villa. Simona is running the B&B and is a very sweet and pleasant person, that gave us all the help needed to setup our wedding. The bed-rooms are big and bring you back to a 15th century environment.

We stayed here in the middle of winter, during a particularly cold period. Because the house is so old (15th century) it is hard to heat and we had to have all the windows shuttered to keep warm. Even then it was not warm and it was not so nice being shuttered up during the day. We needed extra blanket for the night.||||The house itself is being lovingly restored by Simona and her husband. They are doing a great job and the house is truly magnificent architecturally. However, the interior decor is tired and faded and could use some updating. We stayed in three of the upstairs rooms and had use of a huge living area there. There was also a room downstairs and this was the best, and very beautiful, like a queen's room. The upstairs ones varied. One was lovely, the others a bit old.||||The upstairs bathroom needs renovating and the shower (over the bath) needed to be held in the hand while washing. The downstairs shower (outside the finest room) had good pressure - but the shower head fell on me twice and was only loosely secured. It was also very narrow. ||||One thing I really would have liked was coffee/tea making facilities upstairs (just a kettle and some cups) as we did not have use of the kitchen. ||||The breakfast was simple - croissants (very fresh ones), yoghurt and corn flakes. (And coffee). ||||Simona was very nice, friendly and helpful. She recommended and booked us a restaurant that was superb. She provided much info about local sights, even with limited english.||||Just a warning, the restaurants in this tiny town dont open until 8pm! So we had to drive to the next town where they open at 7pm. Good to know with little kids! You need a car to get around and see anything, but we took some excellent day trips around the region.||||Situated around the house is a beautiful little medieval village, great for walking around, looks unchanged from the 15th C. There are also some nice walks up behind in the hills.||||I think staying at Palazzo Ronchelli would be ideal in the summer, when the place is all opened up. With the addition of tea making facilities, some attention to the bathrooms and decor, this place would be amazing.

When we booked it, it was a gamble - the place didn't have ratings at all. We were not dissapointed, though.||||The upside - the place is beautiful. It's an old hunting villa of some wealthy aristocrats from few hundred years ago. It looks accordingly. Big rooms, decorated ceiling, and so on. A wonderful place.||||The downside is that it requires more work - not on the maintenance level (everything worked fine), but on concept level. For example, there is a shared bathroom. Bathrobes would be nice in this case. There are a lot of unused spaces, that just sit there. It appears that the place is for sale, so if anyone else takes it, it can be upgraded to a real gem.||||The room itself is good. Everything is clean, the owners are very nice. One disadvantage - there is not parking in the b&b itself, but rather nearby. Overall, though, it was a really nice place.
