It was Christmas 2024. My husband Mike, and I were exchanging gifts with each other. Mike pointed to a corner in the room. I was thrilled to see he had gotten me a new piece of Tumi luggage. What I didn’t expect was the folder on top of the suitcase. When I opened the folder, what I saw took my breath away.||In the folder was an invitation to “Total Tuscany: Wine, Food and Fun! 2025.” I was so excited. Mike knew I had always dreamed of a trip to Italy. He had worked with a colleague who shared what a wonderful trip it was for them. Mike planned the whole thing without telling me anything.||Almost immediately, after the holidays, I started researching Rome. We added a two day stay in Rome prior to Tuscany. It was confusing given all the options for hotel, transportation, tours, etc.||We communicated with Sandy for her recommendations. Sandy was very quick to reply to any text or email sent. She gave us options, which at first, in our minds were expensive. We appreciated that Sandy gave us her recommendation but left these decisions to us. At the end of the day, we followed her options and were so glad we did.||Every detail was planned so well and made our trip extremely memorable. When I stepped off the plane, it was emotional for me - I was in Italy! A lifelong dream was coming true!||Rome was incredible and we were able to see almost everything we wanted to see. Our private tours of the Coliseum and the Vatican were amazing. Just Mike and I with a guide (Sandy’s recommendation), who shared so much information, we may otherwise not have known. Amazing!||Day three, private driver from Rome to Montepulciano. Sandy, Phil and Maverick (wonderful furry friend) greeted all of us and made us feel so welcome. You can read about the week and all of the things you’ll do if you join Total Tuscany for a dream vacation. Sandy and Phil took care of everything and made the week so much fun. If a group member had a special need, Sandy was all over it to accommodate the need.||We made new friends and have so many wonderful memories. Whether you travel alone, with a partner, or with a group, it’s always so wonderful to have an experienced tour company fill each day seeing amazing, off-the-wall sights, experiencing the best wineries available in Tuscany, and retiring in the evening with a smile on your face because you get to do it again tomorrow! I had the joy of celebrating a milestone birthday in Tuscany with my family, and Sandy and Phil were truly the icing on the cake! From the very beginning, Sandy offered her expertise and travel services to help plan the perfect week. Every detail of the trip was carefully curated and perfectly suited to our group. ||She went above and beyond to tailor an itinerary that matched exactly what we were hoping for - complete with thoughtful recommendations and special touches at every stop. Sandy also helped arrange our hotel accommodations which were absolutely stunning. The property was incredible!||Communication with Sandy was seamless from start to finish. She was responsive, supportive, and her insight into the area was invaluable. Every aspect of our trip reflected her thoughtful planning and deep knowledge of Tuscany.||To top it all off, Sandy and Phil joined us for a fun round of trivia and a Tuscan BBQ dinner at our hotel our first night. Getting to know them better was such a treat and was the perfect way to kick off our unforgettable week!||Thanks to Sandy and Total Tuscany, this was an extraordinary experience filled with memories I’ll cherish forever. We chose Total Tuscany with Sandy and Phil based on a friend’s recommendation and we were pleased beyond words! Sandy and Phil planned luxurious and immersive experiences for us that gave us a sense of comraderie with our fellow travelers as well as a deeper understanding of Italian food and culture. Sandy bent over backwards to change or add an experience if it would suit the group better. Nothing was too much trouble for her! Although no one in our group wanted to go ballooning she found another group for me to go with and it was amazing! We also forgot my husband’s hiking stick at home and she was able to order it through Amazon and have it waiting for us when we arrived! This is the Trip of a lifetime! Thank you so much Sandy and Phil!

My husband & I were planning an anniversary trip to Italy, and the Total Tuscany experience had all the top activities we wanted to do. Unfortunately, the program dates did not work for us, so Sandy offered her trip planning services. She assisted us in setting an itinerary that included all the locations we wanted to visit, as well as suggestions and connections for activities, transportation, dining and hotels. Securing our hotel in Tuscany would not have happened without her assistance. The best part is that Sandy and Phil are local to Tuscany! ||Some of our favorite activities where spending the day on a gozzo boat exploring Capri, touring beautiful wineries in Val d’Orcia, a Tuscan cooking class, dinner in Pienza with a front row seat to a stunning sunset, and the most spectacular stay at a unique, 3 key Michelin rated B&B in Civita di Bagnoregio - a hilltop town only accessible by footbridge! All this, carefully coordinated by Sandy, who was accessible for any hiccups throughout our visit.||Sandy, Phil & Maverick joined us for a Tuscan BBQ hosted by our Borgo in Montepulciano. The dinner included wine pairings from a local winemaker whose enthusiasm and passion for winemaking was evident in every glass he poured. The best part, he invited us to visit his family winery, which hands down beats the bigger wineries that offer tours. ||Sandy & Phil are the real deal! We can’t wait to visit again!

If you are looking for an out of this world experience, you’ve got to book here! I did the total Tuscany 2024 in April and no detail was left out. Sandy and Phil arranged everything with the local-only experiences, opportunities we never could have booked on our own. The property is the definition of luxury and truly a VIP experience. The chef at the restaurant is top notch and every meal was delicious. Cannot rave about this place enough! The pictures of the view can’t begin to give it justice. You’ve gotta see it in person! Huge thank you to Sandy and Phil for treating me as part of the family - very important for a solo traveler!

Phil and Sandy were incredible hosts! The bed and breakfast grounds were stunning with many activities perfect for a romantic getaway. Centrally located at the base of Montelpulciano, Relais provided a perfect launch point to many incredible towns and wineries in the Tuscan region. The hospitality was unmatched, we really felt like family while we were there, and the food that Phil, Sandy and their small team made us for breakfast and dinner (highly recommend the BBQ dinner!!) was unbelievable. Highly highly recommend, we will be back!

My husband and I couldn’t have had a more magical experience during our first trip to Tuscany. Sandy communicated with us as we headed to the B&B from Florence and Sandy, Phil, Maverick and Cooper were waiting for us when we arrived to greet us. Phil showed us around the villa and made sure we were comfortable in our gorgeous room. Our private entrance was perfect and our balcony had breathtaking views of the hills of Tuscany. Sandy made us homemade breakfast each morning, even trying a new healthy recipe for oat pancakes based off of our likes! Phil made us delicious lattes each morning and both Sandy and Phil helped us with local recommendations and reservations. Every restaurant they recommended was amazing and truffle hunting with the cooking class and our spa day were highlights of our trip. As mentioned in all of the reviews, the property is beyond breathtaking and the location is perfect. But the true gem at Relias Ortalgia are Sandy and Phil and their true love for hosting. We came as strangers and left with life long friends. Can’t wait to come back soon!

returned to Relais Ortaglia B&B this fall. We were there shortly after they opened in 2019 and had such a great experience that we had to go back! We were not the least bit disappointed in our return ! Phil and Sandy have done a great job making the place look even better!! They pay attention to every detail ! The property itself is breathtakingly beautiful and they have enhanced it with beautiful flowers and all kinds of seasonal decorations. The rooms themselves are beautifully decorated and extremely comfortable. The location of the property is ideal ! We rented a car and it was about a 6 minute drive to the town of Montepulciano which was great! We could also drive to so many places in Tuscany from the property in about an hour! And on top of that, Sandy and Phil are the perfect hosts ! They are so welcoming and such good resources for things to do in the area. We went there with no real plan and they helped us figure out different things to do every day - and made all necessary reservations for us!! We can’t say enough good things about Relais Ortaglia ! We are already planning a third trip back !

Relais Ortaglia - what a wonderful place. A fabulous Tuscan vacation experience from start to finish!

We can not wait for our second trip to visit this Spring - I can only hope that there is availability as I wouldn’t want to stay anywhere else!!!

This trip was more than a great trip - it really was a once in a lifetime amazing experience - filled with wonderful food & wine, friendships, exploration, history, adventure and lots of laughter & fun - oh and the best wine tasting tours and pasta making class EVER!!! All planned by Sandy - who is a constant wealth of knowledge … thank you so much!!!

From the moment we pulled into Relais Ortaglia’s driveway, we were surrounded by such beauty and serenity … like what you would only expect to see in a movie! The landscaping and the gardens are beautiful. The accommodations were excellent - all the small details thought of …. inviting rooms, all decorated differently but all in ways that made you feel warm and cozy yet sophisticated and special. The bed was so comfortable with linens that were super soft. The picturesque views from my room were ones that made me wake up extra early so I wouldn’t miss the beautiful sunrise. Which was also a bonus b/c I wanted to be sure to start the day with the delicious breakfasts that Sandy and Phil made from scratch - don’t think I’ve ever had breakfasts so yummy and presented so beautifully!!!!

Sandy and Phil are amazing hosts, really making our trip unforgettable. Sandy was so helpful with planning details and recommending places and activities that we never would have known on our own. She knows the ins and outs of what to do and where to go that only a local would. We loved seeing everywhere we visited through the eyes of a local and not just a tourist. Everywhere we went we were greeted with open arms and smiles. Sandy and Phil made us feel part of their Tuscany circle … introducing us to restaurant owners, farmhouse owners, wine makers , etc.

Sandy also knows everything about everything and made learning about the history of Tuscany fun!

Traveling across the world can be stressful even on the best vacations - and Sandy and Phil really take all the stress out of if for you. You feel comfortable and relaxed right away - freeing yourself up to just enjoy each day and what the Tuscan sun brings.

This place is magical! My husband and I stayed here for a few days and had a wonderful time. Sandy and Phil are so much fun, and the building and grounds are just gorgeous. Sandy cooked the most delicious breakfast every morning (fresh made pastries, eggs, etc) and they often joined their guests for cocktail hour at the pool bar in the afternoon. They also helped us with tips for visiting sites in the area, and helped us book some activities and meals. We would love to return some day!

My husband and I would highly recommend Relais Ortaglia for your stay in the heart of Tuscany. We stayed and made it our home base for a week. It is just the right location for small day trips and there is also so much to see within 10-20 minutes as well! We need to come back so we can explore more!! The rooms are absolutely beautiful and the property has stunning sunrise and sunset views. The pool provided a much needed cool down in the 100 degree heat. Sandy and Phil provided a thorough list of things to see/do, most of which involved unique, local experiences that most travelers would not know about. They also made the most wonderful breakfasts!!! We can’t wait to return to this perfect property again! Thank you Sandy and Phil!

Relais Ortaglia in Tuscany is the most enchanting place! In June of 2023 we were able to spend 4 nights at this wonderful Bed and Breakfast. Our time here was everything we had hoped for and so much more. We chose Relais Ortaglia to be our time to relax in the middle of a three-week trip which included Rome, Venice, Florence and Cinque Terra. We were not disappointed at all. We just wished we could have returned one last time before returning to the States.

Sandy and Phil are the most amazing and attentive hosts looking after every detail to make for an unbelievable stay. They dished up a wonderful breakfast each morning, offered suggestions about how and where to spend the day and even made the reservations as needed for wine tasting, cooking classes and dinner. Oh…and the BBQ they served us was delicious, and gave us the opportunity to get to know Sandy and Phil as they joined us for dinner and shared stories about their beloved home and its rich history.

The accommodations were so comfortable with attention to detail in every place. The pool with its fabulous view all around and the new bar just steps away serving up the most delicious cocktails! The gardens were meticulously cared for and thought-out and the outdoor seating for breakfast was the perfect place to start each day.

We could go on and on about how amazing Relais Ortaglia is but our suggestions is to make your reservation now. You won’t be disappointed in anyway.

My wife and I stay at this bed and breakfast while we were visiting Tuscany and it was great! We haven’t stopped talking to our friends about our stay with Sandy and Phil. Not only are they excellent humans who work hard to take care of you during your stay; their property is gorgeous. Sandy made all our reservations and gave phenomenal recommendations. They’re excellent hosts and the breakfast is delicious- think fresh quiches, pastry, fruit, cheese, honey. And anything they can get from their garden is there. If this property is in your budget, what are you waiting for?! If it’s a potential splurge; splurge! Views of the rolling hills of Tuscany, vineyards, and an excellent breakfast view of Montepulciano. We can’t thank Sandy and Phil enough for their hospitality. We would definitely stay with them again the next time we make our way out to Tuscany.

We stayed 5 nights at Relais Ortaglia on our trip to Tuscany and it was the best part of our trip! Sandy and Phil are incredible hosts and the attention to detail makes this a fabulous place to stay. Sandy even pulled some strings to get us into amazing restaurants. The breakfasts were delicious, the scenery so gorgeous and we enjoyed the gardens and pool. We had fun meeting other guests at the Tuscan BBQ! Cooper was also an amazing little host always making sure to greet you at breakfast! Sandy works hard to make sure your Tuscan experience is the best it can be! We highly recommend this beautiful B&B and look forward to returning.

We travel a fair amount and Relais Ortaglia is perhaps my favorite place I’ve stayed. No detail is left untouched, the guest rooms were spacious and luxurious, the grounds beautiful and well appointed.

Importantly, Ortaglia is perfect for kids, our 7 year old absolutely loved staying there. After 5 hot and somewhat stressful days in Rome we instantly relaxed at Relais Ortaglia. The grounds are picturesque, the pool is wonderful (shaded chairs were definitely a plus, having a view of Montepulciano and the Tuscan valley wasn’t too bad either).

We loved waking up everyday to Cooper, their dog, greet us at the bottom of the stairs, and walk to the garden or say hi to the chickens. In the evenings, we always tried to make it to the swings overlooking the sunset over the valley for a glass of wine or two.

Best of all are the hosts, Sandy, Phil and of course Cooper. Sandy is an amazing guide - helping us book dinner at amazing local restaurants, wine tasting, and tours at a pig farm of all places. She’s also a wonderful cook, making amazing breakfasts sourced from their garden - personal favorites include a ricotta/zucchini tart and some of the best muffins I’ve eaten. Phil makes a heck of a cappuccino too! Together they truly care about the community they live in, showcasing the beauty of Tuscany, and you’ll feel cared for as their guest! Thank you Sandy, Phil, and Cooper for making our stay so amazing and memorable!!!

Having traveled around Italy fairly extensively, I was looking forward to our stay at Relais Ortaglia just outside Montepulciano... but I had no idea just what a treat I was in for. The property itself is breathtaking, with gorgeous landscapes, a wonderful pool, lots of places to lounge and chat outside, and stunning views of the sunset that just defy description. The room was beautifully decorated and spacious, with a bed that's more comfortable than my own at home (much less the sometimes-questionable beds that I've stayed in at other places in Italy!). The breakfast each morning was a highlight of the day, with delicious home-cooked meals made from ingredients we could see growing around the property.

That said, as amazing as the "bed and breakfast" part of our experience was, the absolute best thing about Relais Ortaglia is clearly the staff. Sandy and Phil go out of their way to make every guest feel like a member of the family, with a warm welcome upon arrival, generous offers to arrange for tours and restaurant reservations, and on several occasions during our stay, quick help with little 'one-off' things that we needed. (I'm reluctant to say too much about the small things that they did or offered, because I don't want to encourage future guests to be as needy as I was!) We had such an amazing visit with them that one night we cancelled our dinner reservations because we didn't want to get up from our sunset rocking chair conversation with them.

Sandy and Phil, you made for an incredible experience. THANK YOU for welcoming us into your home and making us feel like family. And of course, please tell Cooper that no breakfast or sunset cocktail since our stay has been the same without him dutifully sitting by my side for petting.

Hermosa estadía! Los propietarios son encantadores. La vista es maravillosa y la piscina es deliciosa. Pasamos un momento muy agradable de mucha paz y tranquilidad . El lugar es súper recomendable. Mejor si hablas inglés pero no es un problema...el desayuno es muy rico ! Muchas gracias a los dos!

Muy refinada finca con impresionante vistas a los viñedos y a Montepulciano. ||Excelente lugar para visitar el Val d´Orcia.||La habitación (Talosa) donde nos alojamos era muy buena y satisfacía nuestras necesidades. Dispone de pileta de natación con vista a los viñedos (no la utilizamos).||El propietario (Sr Terenzio) está siempre más que dispuesto para asesorar y recomendar lugares para visitar, caminos, restaurantes (por cierto, sus dos recomendaciones fueron excelentes !!).||Lugar muy tranquilo, por lo que el descanso tan necesario para quienes estamos visitando lugares cercanos (o no tanto) todos los días, es de calidad.||Lo recomiendo.
