Upon arrival at Tenuta Il Castagno, you’re welcomed by a beautiful driveway that immediately evokes a sense of grandeur.|Although the estate consists of a villa and several apartments with a swimming pool, the atmosphere on site feels more cold than charming. During our stay, only two other couples were present, which made the place feel deserted and lacking in coziness. The accommodation offers little in terms of experience and misses a sense of liveliness.|A major downside was the condition of the swimming pool: when we arrived, it had not yet been cleaned, and throughout our stay, it was not maintained daily. This detracts from the comfort and well-kept impression one would expect from a restored estate.|The apartments are simply furnished, each with a private outdoor space and free WiFi. Additional facilities such as a bread delivery service, language courses, and bike rentals are available, but they are not actively promoted and feel more like optional extras. The restaurant across the road offers a convenient option for meals but adds little to the overall atmosphere of the estate.|Conclusion|Tenuta Il Castagno is a place with an impressive history and a beautiful location, but it lacks the atmosphere, care, and experience you would expect from a Tuscan retreat. For those seeking peace and quiet, it may serve as a pleasant base, but travelers looking for comfort and a warm, lively ambiance may find themselves disappointed.

The most magical wedding venue imaginable - truly unforgettable!

Borgo Il Castagno will forever hold a special place in our hearts. We got married here just three weeks ago, and from start to finish, it was nothing short of perfect.

The venue itself is breathtaking — nestled in the Tuscan hills, with sweeping views, a serene lake, a lavender field, and not one but two beautiful swimming pools. The borgo has this amazing balance of rustic charm and grand elegance — it felt like stepping into a dream.

Valentina, the owner, is an absolute gem. She was incredibly kind, flexible, and accommodating throughout the entire process. Her warmth and support made us feel completely at ease, and nothing was ever too much trouble. The entire team went above and beyond to make sure everything ran smoothly.

There’s even a lovely little restaurant just down the road — it all felt like a perfect slice of Tuscany, shared with our closest friends and family.

We are endlessly grateful to Valentina and everyone at Borgo Il Castagno for making our wedding so magical. It was everything we dreamed of and more. If you're considering getting married in Tuscany - this is the place. The best ever! 💛

Borgo molto silenzioso con una vista sulla Vallata meravigliosa l'appartamento dove abbiamo alloggiato era molto pulito è corredato di tutto il necessario per una vacanza all'insegna del relax. La piscina molto bella con giardino curato. La signora che ci ha accolto è stata molto gentile e premurosa nel chiederci se avessimo bisogno di qualcosa, posso sicuramente consigliare questo posto. Abbiamo passato veramente tre bei giorni grazie.

Good clean apartment located within sizable grounds in the Tuscan countryside. The scenery is breathtaking. Apartment was well sized, decently furnished and equipped. We used the heating a little since the weather was starting to get chilly. One wonders how summer would be since there didn’t seem to be air conditioners. The property was very easy to communicate with before our trip. ||Being in the Tuscan countryside, there are the obvious bugs flying around. This is obviously the same for all properties on the region, however, this property might want to seal around the insect screens since there were bugs creeping in through the cracks on a daily basis. ||Overall, however, this is a property I would definitely consider going back to.

Il borgo è meraviglioso, una tenuta affascinante, un paesaggio mozzafiato. Abitazioni molto carine, caratteristiche con tutti i confort, piscine belle, pulite e ben esposte, personale gentile e disponibile. Unico appunto: potrebbe aumentare la proposta con gite a cavallo, qualche barchetta nel lago, visite agli animali presenti etc. Comunque consigliato

Met ons gezin van 5 (kinderen van 3, 7 en 9 jaar) hadden we een heerlijke week. Het zwembad is heerlijk, de kinderen hadden in het hoogseizoen snel verschillende vriendjes. De omgeving is mooi en er zijn veel leuke dorpjes in de buurt om te bezoeken (ook minder bekende dorpjes die net zo mooi zijn en minder toeristisch zoals Certaldo; ga er dan lekker eten met uitzicht op de heuvels). Ook zijn er in de buurt leuke restaurants (passa tempo di osteria il papero is een culinaire must tijdens je bezoek). Wij vinden de prijs-kwaliteit van de agriturismo goed. De appartementen zijn traditioneel ingericht en er is geen airco. Maar slapen met de ramen open is lekker en voldoende verkoelend. Het is pittoresk, traditioneel en echt een aanrader voor vakantie met je gezin voor zowel ultieme ontspanning als de perfecte uitvalsbasis voor het ontdekken van Toscane

A wonderful place for the whole family, nice surrounding, Tuscany at its best. Appartement Il Forno is well equipped. Very good and clean pool. Nice people. Good service. Wine and truffle tasting was great. The park is very nice for small walks around. Don’t miss trips to Volterra, Sienna and San Gimignano.

Mooie locatie, maar appartement zijn gedateerd en ongezellig.

Via MyItalie hier beland. Gezien de stevige prijs per nacht waren de verwachtingen hoog. Helaas valt dat enorm tegen.

De 8 jaar oude foto’s schetsen gezellige appartementen. In werkelijkheid zijn het kille vertrekken zonder enige gezelligheid en met gedateerde meubels. De bedden zijn slecht en de keuken inrichting is half en oud.

Op meerdere plekken in de appartementen hangen provisorische briefjes met wat je niet mag doen en wat de boete daarvoor is. Erg welkom voelt dit niet.

Het landgoed is prachtig gelegen, maar het onderhoud ligt jaren achter. Overal zijn oude tractoren te vinden en de hekwerken en wandelpaden zijn kapot of vergaan.

MyItalie adverteert dat er tegenover deze agriturismo een restaurant ligt. Dat klopt. Wij hadden gehoopt met de wifi-babyfoon een bezoekje hier te kunnen brengen, dat was helaas niet mogelijk: gewoon mobiel bereik is er binnen niet en de aangeboden Wifi is onbetrouwbaar en alleen in de deuropening te ontvangen. Een babyfoon hierop laten werken is onmogelijk.

Gezocht: een investeerder die hier wél een gezellige plek van weet te maken. Want de locatie en het terrein is prachtig. Nu nog iemand vinden die hier wat liefde in weet te brengen… Jammer van deze week vakantie.

Enjoyed our stay for a couple of days, but the feeling in the end was that this could have been so much more.

Pros

- amazing views
- great location to visit the surrounding cities
- spacious appartement with well equipped kitchen
- nice calm pool with enough beds
- felt really welcome during the check-in. No waiting time, refreshing drinks and friendly staff

Cons
- worst beds we have slept on in a long time
- appartements and grounds could use more tender, love and care. Some windows had a mosquito net bit others in the same room did not, door that did not close, dirty dishes from the previous occupants, toilet kept running at times, worn couches, loose socket, road on the premises had a lot of trenches and holes, concrete tiles in the pool "slide" that were unsafe for children to name a few.
- really hot outside, but even hotter inside. Fans did help a bit, but would book an appartment with airco next time I'm in the area during the summer.
- some private areas outside the appartment have great views and are large, while others are small and closed in with no views.
- Unreliable WiFi (did not work most of the time) and mobile network not available which made it harder to prepare day trips and navigate the area.
- reception opening times schedule changed during the week and we almost never saw somebody from the organization.
- No entertainment for children (while there were many) or adults (dinner together with other guests or wine tasting).
- Welcoming package mostly contained rules and fines, for example: Anyone caught not separating waste will be subject to a penalty payment of €250.
- Checkout at 9am is too early.

It is a beautiful park as you can also see from the pictures but once on location it was very disappointing. There was supposed to be a fence around the pool but there is none. There are some poles around it but children can crawl under them. And the button for the entrance gate is at child height so it didn't feel safe to let your child walk en play around the park. In the playground, the barren grass was so high that children could not play there. Only at the end of our vacation was this mowed. The pool has some loose tiles, was not cleaned much (a lost patch for example was there for over a week). The cottages in themselves are spacious, but all outdated. They should refurbish everything and restock with good pans, cutlery, etc. |Our house was very dirty upon arrival. For example, there were still caked, unwashed pans in the cupboard. Even some crisps in a bowl. Under the beds there were still candy wrappers and napkins from previous guests and in pits of 2 bathrooms there were still hairs. Very dirty.|We stayed here for two weeks and after 1 week we would get a linen change. The new sheets and towels were just put in front of our door and we had to go and change all the beds ourselves. Also very strange, I had never experienced this before. Unfortunately when changing the sheets I saw how gross everything was under and around the beds. |It says on the site that there is a washing machine. There is one only it can only be used during the opening hours of the reception, which is only a few hours a day and some days it is not open at all. And since you don't have a lot of opportunities to to laundry, the machine is fully booked with other guests and rarely usable.

We have just got back from our wedding in Il Castagno at the beginning of May. ||We had 70 of our friends and family stay at the venue in the apartments and villas. Everyone loved it! ||Each apartment has its own facilities so each family could have their own space as well as communal areas. Two pools, lake and beautiful deer. We couldn’t have asked for more. | |We cannot express how highly we thought of the staff and the venue! It was unbelievable. We do not get venues or help like that in the UK!|The staff at Il Castagno were so helpful from start to finish. | |Everyone was commenting on how amazing it was and how brilliant the venue was. We already have guests wanting to go back on family trips next year.| |All 70 guests stayed for 3 nights and used it as a base to explore Florence, Pisa, Siena, Voltera, San Gimignano. The roads are lovely to drive and the views are incredible. |||Id like to thank the staff for all the help leading up the weekend, there were a lot of emails and I understand this takes a lot of time to do. I really appreciated the fact the staff also spoke amazing English as this wouldn't have been able to happen if they didn't - the staff have helped make our Italian dream wedding come true.||I would highly recommend for a wedding/long weekend or full holiday.

Alquilamos una casa para 8 amigos , está muy cerca de San Gimignano, en una situación perfecta para conocer las grandes ciudades históricas y pequeños pueblos toscanos. ||||La casa es tipo rural, algo oscura, pero con un entorno increíble y una buena piscina.||||El personal excelente, en especial Teresa que estuvo al tanto de todas nuestras necesidades.
