We had a truly wonderful time staying at Gasthof Kohlern. The fresh, high-quality (often locally-sourced) food and the hospitality were our favorite parts. The waitstaff showed upmost professionalism but also a relaxed kindness that made us feel really at home. We hope to come back!

Vielen lieben Dank für eine schöne, aber eine kurze Zeit im Kohlern. Der Service und das Personal sind überaus freundlich. Der Hotelier, Josef Schrott, ist sehr charmant und freundlich zudem sehr zuvorkommend und lösungsorientiert. Wir hatten dankenswerterweise ein Upgrade mit wunderschönem Blick auf Bozen erhalten.Die Suite großzügig mit Balkon , für mich waren allerdings die Betten zu hart, so dass mein Schlaf beeinträchtigt war - ist allerdings auch ein persönlicher Geschmack und als Hotelier sehr schwer den Geschmack der Gäste zu treffen. Was die Küche betrifft, hatten wir ein sehr gutes Abendessen a la carte. Man hat zudem die Möglichkeit das Menü zu wählen.
Preis Leistung… muss jeder Gast für sich entscheiden. Die Lage , der Service haben ihren Preis.

Ein Juwel über den Wolken – Gastfreundschaft mit Herz und Leidenschaft||Wer den Gasthof Kohlern besucht, sucht meist zwei Dinge: Die unvergleichliche Ruhe des Kohlerer Bergs und das nostalgische Flair eines geschichtsträchtigen Hauses. Bei unserem aktuellen Besuch im Januar 2026 haben wir jedoch noch etwas Drittes gefunden, das in der letzten Zeit oft Thema in den Rezensionen war: Eine spürbare, fast schon rührende neue Energie in der Bewirtung.|Der Gastgeber: Bemüht, authentisch, präsent|Man merkt sofort, dass man sich hier die kritischen Stimmen der letzten Saison nicht nur durchgelesen, sondern zu Herzen genommen hat. Der Chef des Hauses, Josef, ist omnipräsent – aber auf eine angenehme, aufmerksame Weise. Er wirkt extrem bemüht, jeden Gast persönlich zu begrüßen und sicherzustellen, dass die Abläufe reibungslos funktionieren. Man spürt den Stolz auf das Haus und den ehrlichen Wunsch, dass sich jeder Besucher hier oben auf 1.100 Metern wie bei Freunden fühlt. Dieser persönliche Einsatz gibt dem Gasthof die Seele zurück, die mancherorts in der kommerziellen Hotellerie verloren gegangen ist.||Kulinarik & Ambiente|Die Küche bleibt sich treu: Bodenständig, alpin-mediterran und von hoher Qualität. Das heutige Gala-Dinner war ein Genuss auf höchstem Niveau mit perfekter Weinbegleitung. Das Ambiente ist und bleibt ein Traum für Liebhaber der Sommerfrische-Architektur – knarzende Dielen, historische Details und dieser Blick über Bozen!||Service & Team|Das Team wirkt gut eingespielt und die Herzlichkeit des Chefs scheint auf die Mitarbeiter abzufärben. Es herrscht eine entspannte, aber hochprofessionelle Atmosphäre.||Fazit|Der Gasthof Kohlern hat in Sachen Service-Exzellenz bravourös gemeistert. Wer aufgrund älterer Kritiken gezögert hat, sollte dem Haus und seinem engagierten Team unbedingt eine I Chance geben. Es ist selten, einen Gastgeber zu erleben, der mit so viel Einsatz und spürbarem Herzblut an der Zufriedenheit seiner Gäste arbeitet.|Ein Ort für die Seele, der auch durch seine herzliche Führung glänzt. Wir kommen definitiv wieder!

Five stars are not enough to rate this place. Staying there was an eleven-star experience! Everything in Gasthof Kohlern invites you to slowly appreciate the beauty of life: the natural environment, with an amazing view of the surrounding mountains; the cuisine, with delicious and refined dishes, the wines, the breakfasts; the simple elegance of the rooms; the peace and quiet; and last but not least, the generous and considerate kindness of the staff. Sehr sehr schönes und gutes Hotel! Es hat hier einfach alles gepasst. Ich hatte ein sehr schönes Zimmer mit Bergblick und über Bozen. Der Wellnessbereich ist auch super. Das Essen im Restaurant ist hochwertig und geschmackvoll. Ich komme auf jeden Fall mal privat. Der Service ist ausgezeichnet.

Der Service war ausgesprochen freundlich, so wie das Ambiente sehr schön , das alles

rechtfertigt trotzdem nicht den Preis .

già solo arrivare al cospetto di questo ristorante vale il prezzo del biglietto per la bellezza veramente suggestiva.
Ambiente curatissimo, caldo, intimo e affascinante, specialmente la sera quasi completamente a lume di candela...materie prime di altissima caratura, che raccontano un territorio incredibile attraverso le sue stagioni e lavorate con tecnica , gusto e grazia.
Servizio meraviglioso, preciso e puntuale..la carta dei vini incredibile, vasta, profonda e molto ricercata che spazia dalla grandissima proposta territoriale e nazionale, fino alla ricerca internazionale di nicchia . I vini stessi poi serviti,( cosa mai banale) con calici di pregievole fattura ,differenti nella tipologia in base al vino servito,segno contraddistintivo di una cura totale per il servizio...il titolare squisito, esaustivo e di gran carisma coadiuvato da personale molto professionale ed elegante.

Das Hotel hätte ein "sehr gut" verdient: Die Lage ist einmalig, die Mitarbeiter sind sehr freundlich, das Essen ist toll, die Weinkarte außergewöhnlich - wenn nur die Ansprache des Chefs gegenüber den Gästen nicht wäre, die nicht immer vom Dienstleistungsgedanken geprägt ist. Darüber hinaus: Morgens um 07.30 Uhr vom Laubpüster geweckt zu werden ("Das will der Chef so ..."), ist im Urlaub dann doch recht früh. Schade ...

Wirklich eine Oase der Ruhe in den Südtiroler Bergen, perfekter Ausgangspunkt für Wanderungen und der Blick ins Panorama und über Bozen einfach einzigartig.
Was uns aber am allermeisten begeistert hat, war der unglaublich authentisch herzliche Service.
Wir kommen definitiv wieder.

Leider bleibt mir das Hotel in sehr schlechter Erinnerung, obwohl es an sich ein nettes Hotel ist und das Personal grundsätzlich sehr bemüht ist. Die Lage ist gut mit Blick auf Bozen, das Zimmer war in Ordnung, aber das Bad hatte einen schlechten Geruch. Am schlimmsten war jedoch die arrogante Art des Hoteliers in verschiedenen Situationen. Eine berechtigte sachliche Kritik zum Essen wurde beispielsweise nicht angenommen, im Gegenteil, er zog das Ganze ins Lächerliche und war nicht in der Lage, ernsthaft darauf einzugehen oder sich zu entschuldigen. Sehr schade, aber diese Person hat uns den Urlaub vermiest.

Though we paid for the entire stay, we left 3 nights early. The owner appeared to dislike us on sight and was curt at his most pleasant. We felt unwelcome and were treated as though we were a nuisance. The food was mostly cold, very underseasoned and not well made except for a chickpea soup and a lentil soup. We had both the half-board and a la carte and the issue was the same. Our second floor room had a shower that was barely warm enough; bursts of warm water followed by cold. There is very little public space other than the restaurant. The small Stube was dark and used for storage save one night when we were allowed to have a drink. The village is okay but the inn is hard by two schools and a house; one looks into these buildings rather than out into open space. We had very nice waiters who were professional and welcoming which was a bit jarring given the attitude of the host. Really did not meet expectations and was not relaxing.

Ieri abbiamo goduto di una bellissima giornata dedicata all'escursione tra Bolzano e i suoi dintorni. Volevamo terminarla con una cenetta romantica, circondati dalle montagne che avvolgono Bolzano. Abbiamo deciso di salire al Colle, dopo molti anni in cui non visitavamo quel luogo, per vedere se riuscivamo a trovare un maso dove cenare con i tipici prodotti altoatesini. Dopo esserci avventurati lungo la strada per il colle, completamente deserta e senza incrociare nessun mezzo, siamo arrivati al Colle, che si presentava completamente deserto e silenzioso tanto da disperare di trovare qualche locale aperto . Ad Un inatteso passante del luogo al quale abbiamo chiesto dove potessimo cenare, ci ha indicato un ristorante di cui non conoscevamo l'esistenza e che era completamente nascosto dalla nostra vista. Abbiamo deciso di provarci e, quando siamo entrati in questo locale stupendo, siamo rimasti meravigliati dalla bellezza della struttura antica e, soprattutto, dall'accoglienza che ci è stata offerta. Non potevamo sperare di trovare di meglio: un'atmosfera con musica soffusa e illuminazione a candele su tutti i tavoli, un menù ricco di piatti tipici e rivisitati, con un'ottima presentazione. Consigliamo i ravioli preparati con farina di pere, burro alle nocciole e prugne, come secondo piatto abbiamo ordinato il Gröstl tipico piatto sudtirolese, è stato servito come uso in alto Adige nella padella di ferro composto da deliziose patate cotte perfettamente e un morbidissimo guanciale di manzo il tutto aromatizzato con foglie di alloro, rosmarino e timo, abbiamo scelto per provare un vino rosato altoatesino presente nella carta di qualità eccellente e per concludere un dessert al miele, pinoli e polline. Il personale era gentile ed attento a tutte le richieste. Raccomandiamo vivamente questa esperienza a chi ama il silenzio e un'atmosfera romantica.

Easiest 5 star review I’ve ever left. Clean rooms, great location with a wonderful view, and the best staff. Very welcoming and I felt like I was treated like family.

Something I wish I knew before I booked, you don’t even need a car to get here. The oldest cable car in the world runs from about a 10 minute walk to where this hotel is to the bottom of the mountain, and from there you can take the bus in to town. You get cable car service included with booking the room which is great!

It is one of the best hotels I have ever experienced! It's a peaceful oasis with incredible views. The hotel is beautiful with exceptional design, and top quality execution.

The staff are extremely talented, attentive and accommodating. They're very personable and enjoyable to stay with. Special shout out to Aldo who spent time with us at dinner and then at breakfast, giving us fantastic service.

I am shocked the hotel is only 3 stars because what we experienced was nothing lower than 4, perhaps even 5!

I can't wait to come back!

Très agréable surprise. Il est rare de trouver un hôtel où la réalité est mieux que les photos du site... Nous avons choisi de nous garer "en bas" et prendre le téléphérique pour le rejoindre...|Personnel haut de gamme, souriant, à l'écoute, sympathique.|Les odeurs dans les couloirs... Un régal pour les narines. L'Hôtel Disney peut aller se rhabiller, sur ce coup ;-)|La vue dans notre chambre était magnifique. Prendre son Spritz sur la terrasse et savourer la vue... L'endroit est tellement charmant que nous nous sommes contentés de nous promener en montagne, sans redescendre dans la vallée.|Nous pensons y retourner pour un plus long séjour.|Merci à la super Gasthof Team. Vous êtes les meilleurs|Ps : nous recommandons chaudement les massages proposés.

We had the most amazing experience at the Kohlern Inn—truly five stars all around. From the moment we arrived, we were warmly welcomed by the receptionist, and the kindness and attentiveness continued throughout our entire stay.||The inn is perched at the top of a mountain with stunning views overlooking Bolzano. Our room was spotless, spacious, and beautifully decorated—such a peaceful and relaxing setting.||The restaurant was absolutely phenomenal. Every meal we had was outstanding, with incredible food and a wine selection that was clearly curated with care. They went above and beyond to make my husband’s birthday dinner feel really special, including a delicious dessert made just for the occasion.||A huge thank you to the owners, Josef and Christina, who made us feel so welcome. Their warmth and personal touch really made this place feel special. We’re already talking about coming back—such a fabulous experience from start to finish!

We were really happy with this hotel, which is perched in a hamlet above Bolzano (you can drive some hairpin turns or take a fun cable car). We had a lovely view from our room and took the 1/2 board so that we didn't have to worry about driving back at night after dinner. The food was very good, as was the service and we loved the local wines, which were excellent value. The breakfast was especially delicious, with gorgeous local cheeses.|This hotel could be a challenge for someone who needs an elevator as there isn't one to get to the rooms. |We enjoyed some nice walks around the hotel, up into the hills. There was a nice sauna downstairs and a pool, and a calm rest area, which was nice after a day of walking. |Really recommended.

Ho soggiornato purtroppo solo per una notte in questo hotel ed è stata proprio una piacevole scoperta! A parte il contesto in cui si trova l’hotel che è molto caratteristico e suggestivo, ottima è la struttura. La pulizia, il cibo e la cordialità che abbiamo trovato , sono stati sopra ogni aspettativa. Noi avevamo anche il cagnolino con noi e pure con lui, sono stati carinissimi. Struttura che consiglio senza alcun dubbio!

Este Hotel se encuentra ubicado en un montaña sobre la ciudad de Bolzano, Desde allí se pueden apreciar maravillosas vistas de la ciudad y de la montaña. Desde la ciudad son 15 minutos en coche, el personal fue muy amable, las habitaciones muy bien decoradas, la calidad de sueño fue excelente, lo mejor fue el desayuno bufett. Recomiendo
