A fantastic place to stay. It's an old Villa with well maintained interior and a fantastic host.
Wunderbarer Ort.
This was one of the most peaceful and beautiful places we stayed during our trip. The villa is absolutely stunning - historic, elegant, and surrounded by gorgeous grounds. It has a quiet charm that makes you feel like you’ve stepped back in time, but in the best way.||What really made the stay unforgettable was the kindness of the owner. We didn’t have a car, and he personally drove us into town for dinner at a local spot we never would’ve found on our own- and it ended up being one of the best meals of our trip. Later that night, he even came back to pick us up when we called him. Truly above and beyond.||For €130 total for 3 adults, it was an amazing value. Can’t recommend this place enough. I’d come back in a heartbeat.
I had to think hard to give Agriturismo Villa Gropella a fair review. Well then, anyone who really likes old walls will get their money's worth here. Everything in this location is „vintage“ in the truest sense — and you must like that. You can literally feel the breath of history in the corridors and wish the walls could tell stories. On the other hand, everything is simply "old" and worn. If this were a resort with a strong financial investor, it would probably be a gem ... and unaffordable for normal (aka poor) people like me. But it is an agriturismo - family-run, simple, modest, rustic, authentic. Out of respect for the work done, the dedication — and the surprisingly comfortable mattress — I give it 4****. So, personally, it was fine for one night, but I wouldn't want to spend a week's vacation here.
Grazie
We had really nice stay at the Villa Gropella. Rooms and huge, everything furnished with beautiful antique furniture fitting super well to the place. If you need quite vacation in amazing historical place that’s exactly what you’re looking for. Owners are super friendly. Breakfast simple and tasty. We will be definitely coming back.
An old mansion with a lot of character. Easy to find with GPS. Upon checking in we were given a gate opener and door code. The owner is extremely nice, he speaks Italian and French, no English so it was hard to communicate. ||||Our room was unique, the bathroom was a bit lacking (took a long time for the water to heat up, etc.). The mansion needs some renovating but it did not detract from the ambiance. We had a little balcony looking out over a small fountain. We also loved the decor inside, great chandeliers took many pictures around. Breakfast was delicious, great selection and just yum! ||||Had read in a previous review about horseback riding, it's not on site. You drive out about 6km, we weren't able to find it, but if you speak Italian it might be easier to figure out where to go. The little farm was thriving and looked like it would be fun to work. There are mosquitos in that area but were given an Off plug in that worked great.||||Great place for the price, would stay again.
We stayed in Villa Gropella for 4 days in August 2009. We selected this place based on agroturismo with the availability of horse riding and really did not know what to expect. The house is a 17th century mansion inhabited by the owners and their son, Alberto and his family who run the place. Our first impression upon arriving was that we were staying at a haunted mansion like in the movies - old, somber and moody. Only a few rooms of the Villa are used for agroturism, most are not used or open. Alberto was a charming and helpful host who gave us a tour of his home and had many suggestions for local sights and restaurants. Villa Gropella is on an estate with park-like grounds. It appears to have been quite a large place in the past with extensive buildings and stables that could have housed a large permanent staff. ||||Villa Gropella is for the adventurous traveler who wants to experience things as they were many years ago. The accommodations were spacious; although, the furnishings were old and relatively basic. Villa Gropella is an excellent base for exploring Piedmont and Liguria if you have a car. Not a fancy hotel by any means, but it has charm and a good value. Be sure to explore restaurants in the small towns nearby. We found some gems.
